Advisory for existing PIO Card holders
The existing PIO Card holders are advised to get OCI Cards issued to them in lieu of their PIO Card at the earliest possible. The procedure for issuance of OCI Card in lieu of PIO card is as follows:
(i) Initially, for a period of 3 months, obtaining an OCI card in lieu of PIO card will be voluntary and may be done without payment of any additional registration fees. During this period of three months, the PIO Card will be treated as an OCI Card and for this no separate authentication from the Embassy would be required. A separate online application for issue of OCI card in lieu of the PIO card has been devised and is available at http://passport.gov.in/oci/capchaActionPIO
(ii) However, after this initial period of 3 months, it will be mandatory to obtain OCI Card in lieu of the existing PIO Card to avail the benefits extended under the Scheme. The applicants will be required to make payment of registration, service and postage charges, as applicable. Applications would need to be filled online at http://passport.gov.in/oci/capchaActionPIO
