OVERSEAS CITIZENSHIP OF INDIA (OCI)
In pursuance of Prime Minister´s
statement in Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas 2005, the Citizenship Act 1955
has been amended to extend the scope of OCI Scheme to Persons of
Indian Origin (PIOs) of all nationalities other than Pakistan and
Bangladesh that allow dual citizenship. Mexico fulfils this condition.
The Scheme has been made operational from
02 December 2005. Eligible persons may apply in the prescribed
application form to the Indian Mission along with proof for his/her
parents/grand-parents having migrated from India after 26 January
1950.
The application form will have to be accompanied
with a bank draft of US$ 275 or Mexican Pesos 3000.
Any registered PIO is also eligible for
the grant of OCI. He/she may apply for it in the prescribed application
form. In such cases, the application fee would be US25 or Mexican
Pesos 275.
